# This picture is very dear to me . It was taken in or around the year 1966 in a Dutch Zoo named Ouwehands Dierenpark in the middle of , what is very plain to see , the summertime .
From left to right : Wim sr. (Willem van der Groef) , my late father ; Sien (Francina ten Wolde - van der Groef) , my late aunt ; a lost non-aggressive and rather friendly polar bear ..... ; Riet (Maria Paulina van der Groef - ten Wolde) , my dear mother ; Ben (Bernardus ten Wolde) , my late uncle , and finally .... a somewhat and somehow frightened harmless little child , who seems to have rather picked the soft safe hand of his mother instead of that big claw of that fearfully looking huge polar bear ..... and since that little boy was (or should I say ís still me ..?!) I can recollect , or at least I thínk that I still can recollect my somewhat ambiguous state of mind about the confrontation with that .... horrible gigantic white creature .... whereas my parents nor my aunt and uncle didn't seem to fear that ferocious beast at all ......????!!
