# This picture was probably taken in or close to the Dutch village of Eefde , near a farm where my late uncle Arend van der Groef (man with hat) had gone into hiding during what would turn out to become the last about 18 months of the second world war for the Netherlands , in order to avoid being captured and sent as POW to the country of the then enemy Germany , for the so-called Arbeitseinsatz .
Arend stayed there on this farm , probably very close to where they are all standing here on the picture , partly underground (literally !) inside a hole he had dug out himself ... and since this stay would turn out to last for such a long time (18 months) , it must have been a rather or very traumatic experience for my uncle Arend - and now , looking at him here on this picture from around 1960 , he still looks releaved !
The woman in the middle is his then wife Jannie , and the names of the man on the left and of the little boy are unknown , but they presumably are relatives of that helpful farmer's couple during WW II on the farm in Eefde .
